The Sault Ste. Marie Public Library has many resources available to assist you with your genealogical research, including county atlases, census transcriptions, cemetery transcriptions, and indexes to birth, marriage and death announcements. We also house the Ontario Genealogical Society’s (OGS) genealogical collection for Sault Ste. Marie & District.

In addition to the resources mentioned above, we also have an extensive microfilm collection which includes census records of Sault Ste. Marie and the local area, as well as various newspaper agencies, including the Sault Star beginning in 1901. We have several microfilm readers available for public use and we are able to make copies, prints, or scans from microfilm.

While, our collection focuses on Sault Ste. Marie and the District of Algoma, our Interlibrary Loan Service may be able to obtain resources from other institutions, such as the Archives of Ontario.

We also provide access to Ancestry.com for library patrons either by using our public internet computers at any branch location, or connecting to the library’s Wi-Fi with your wireless device and going to www.ancestrylibrary.ca

Please note that all of our microfilm collection, OGS materials, and most of our other genealogical resources are housed at the Centennial Branch.
