Visiting Library Service – (VLS)
The Visiting Library Service is a free delivery service to residents who, for reasons of restricted mobility or vision problems, are unable to come to the library to choose items on their own. Library staff will select materials based on a patron’s reading preferences and volunteers will then deliver the items once per month to the patron’s home. VLS applications are available at all library locations and online.

Registering for VLS

Upon registration, Visiting Library Staff will create a special library account for you and keep the card on file in our office.

Daisy Books & Daisy Readers
Daisy Books are single disk audiobooks produced by the CNIB.  They are played using a Daisy Reader or in some cases MP3 compatible compact disk players.  Daisy Books and Daisy Readers are available for borrowing at the Centennial Library or can be reserved for pickup at any library location.  Daisy Books and Daisy Readers, featuring large buttons to simplify ease of use, are intended for patrons with a visual, physical or learning disability.

Daisy books are listed on the library catalogue and can be found by searching for “daisy book.”

Computers with Assistive Software
The Sault Ste. Marie Public Library has two computers equipped with ZoomText and JAWS software for individuals with a visual, physical, or learning disability. There is one Computer at the Centennial Branch, and one computer at the Korah Branch.

ZoomText software magnifies the computer screen and allows users to see and hear everything on the computer screen.

JAWS (Job Access With Speech) reads aloud the contents of documents, web pages, and speaks standard computer functions for someone who is blind or visually impaired.

To ensure your privacy, it is recommended you bring your own headphones for use with the computer.
