Sault Ste. Marie Public Library

The Sault Ste. Marie Public Library invites you to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day on Monday June 21, 2021 by viewing the latest in our video series, Voices of Bawating.

This video features messages from our local Indigenous leaders including Chief Andy Rickard of Garden River First Nation, Chief Dean Sayers of Batchewana First Nation and Chief Jason Gauthier of Missanabie Cree First Nation.

Each leader’s message is unique and significant and well worth watching!  You will learn about the local history of Bawating, the significance of this area to Indigenous Peoples and the unique connection that the Ojibway people of Turtle Island have to the creation of this national holiday.

The library’s YouTube channel is available at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_zt_cLuIsAsucl72EZ0QIw/videos

Happy National Indigenous Peoples Day to all the people of Bawating!
