Clean North and the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library

have partnered once again to acknowledge Earth Day and present the Canadian documentary film,

“There’s Something In the Water”, directed by Elliot Page and Ian Daniel.

The documentary sheds light on the issue and history of environmental racism in Canada.

Specifically, the film looks at three communities in Nova Scotia, where the water sources have been polluted by industry. The film portrays “a disturbing and, frankly, terrifying portrait of ecological and social disasters”. Steve Gravestock tiff.net

This documentary is based upon a book of the same name by Ingrid Waldron, whose work underscores the connection between the communities, the residents and the frequency of ecological damage with long reaching effects. “The filmmakers discover that these catastrophes have been precisely placed, all in remote, low income — and very often Indigenous or Black — communities.” Steve Gravestock tiff.net

The film will be shown in the Program Room at the James L. McIntyre Centennial Library, 50 East Street, Sault Ste. Marie, on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with a short discussion to follow.
