Public Library Boards are governing boards, legal corporations with the authority to make policy and to govern the library’s affairs under the Public Libraries Act, RSO 1990, c. P.44. The Sault Ste. Marie Public Library Board is directly responsible for establishing and maintaining library policies. All policies are reviewed on a regular basis to ensure that they are up to date, consistent with current legislation, and aligned with the Library’s strategic plan.
Please note, the Library Board is in the process of reviewing, updating, and revising all library policies and we will be posting our newly updated policies as they are approved.
Operational Policies
Operational policies relate to library services in the community, and govern areas of Library’s operations. This group of policies includes those that support SSMPL in its endeavour to provide a welcoming and safe environment for everyone so that all persons may enjoy the benefits of the Library.
Governance Policies
Governance policies are established by the Library Board to define how the Board will conduct business and how it will be accountable and transparent in its decision making.
Business/Financial Policies
Business/Finance policies are established and reviewed by the Library Board to help regulate, supervise, and oversee the financial and business matters of the library.
Human Resources
Human Resource policies are established and reviewed by the Library Board to establish formal rules and procedures to dictate how certain matters at the library should be addressed.
