Kids Programming

We offer a variety of literacy based programming for children of all ages throughout the year. Our goal is to inspire a love of reading in young children while having fun!


Baby Time at the Library

Designed for the youngest library users and their parents or caregivers, Baby Time is a great way to introduce young children to the library, to begin a love of books and to help children develop into lifelong learners. Bring your singing voices for fun, shakers, rattles, scarves and books!!!

This 30 minute program is for caregivers and babies aged 0 to 12 months and runs from January 7th to 28th from 10:00-11:00am. Registration for the upcoming session opens December 17th 2024 at 9am: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/baby-time-winter-2025-tickets-1104594534989

Preschool Time at the Library

This program is for children ages 30-48 months. Parents will wait outside the classroom while 2 instructors help children explore stories and learning activities that encourage them along a life-long path of reading and learning. We start with 20 minutes of play centres then storytime , a craft and a snack is provided. Parents join in for parachute fun for the last 10 minutes.

All children will have opportunities to engage in activities that focus on pre-reading, numeracy and socialization.

New year, new era swiftie party

We're ringing in the new year with a Swiftie party for kids aged 6 to 12! Make a friendship bracelet, sing karaoke, try activities like "Discover Your Swiftie Name", and "Match the Song”, and enjoy a themed snack! This event will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the James L. McIntyre Centennial Library (50 East St.).

Mini Putt at the Library

Kids and caregivers - come play mini-putt in the library! From Saturday, December 21st, 2024, to Saturday, January 4th, 2025, visit the James L. McIntyre Centennial Library (50 East St.) during opening hours and test your mini-putt skills on our 9-hole course in the Children’s Department! No registration is required; open to children of all ages. Note: please check our website or social media for holiday closures prior to visiting.

Baby Time at the North Branch

Designed for the youngest library users and their parents or caregivers, Baby Time is a great way to introduce young children to the library, to begin a love of books and to help children develop into lifelong learners. 

Baby Time will run for 6 weeks, starting November 7, 2024 – December 12, 2024 from 10:20 am -11:00 am at the North Branch Library (232 C Northern Ave. E), and is open to babies from newborn to 12 months of age.

Toddler Time at the Library

 

Get up and get moving with Toddler Time! The James L. McIntyre Centennial Library at 50 East Street is offering a Fall session of Toddler Time on Monday mornings from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. starting Wednesday October 30th to December 4th, 2024.

Registration is now closed.

This program is open to children 13 to 29 months of age and their caregiver. Space is limited.

Through stories, songs and fun, toddlers develop skills and caregivers learn how to encourage and support learning.

LEGO My Library

LEGO My Library Starts September 12th!

Kids and their grown-ups are invited to drop in for LEGO My Library at the James L. McIntyre Centennial Library (50 East St.) starting Thursday, September 12th, 2024, between 6:00 and 7:30 p.m. This program will run weekly and feature a different LEGO building challenge each week, as well as time for free building. LEGO My Library is offered in partnership with Kiwanis of Lakeshore and Kiwanis Aktion Club of Lakeshore.

Surprise Reads for Kids

Surprise Reads for Kids is a monthly subscription with books picked just for kids, based on what they like to read! Each month, we’ll select 3 books for your child, check them out to you, package them for pick-up, and contact you to let you know your Surprise Reads are ready!

Forest of Reading Award Program

The Forest of Reading Award Programs are where children and young adults pick the winner! Readers choose a program that they would like to be a part of, usually based on their age or grade, and simply begin reading! They can read all ten of the titles, or pick and choose to read only the ones they are interested in. Participants are encouraged to read at least five of the ten titles to be eligible to vote in April. This program aims to encourage a genuine and life-long love of reading among readers of all ages.
