Kids Programming

We offer a variety of literacy based programming for children of all ages throughout the year. Our goal is to inspire a love of reading in young children while having fun!


Toddler Time Program

Thursdays: October 19th to November 23rd James L. McIntyre Centennial Library (50 East Street) 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Toddler Time is a fun 45 minute program designed for toddlers and their caregivers. This program encourages and supports learning through stories, songs, art and play.

LEGO My Library

LEGO My Library Starts September 21st!

Kids and their grown-ups are invited to drop in for LEGO My Library at the James L. McIntyre Centennial Library (50 East St.) starting Thursday, September 21st, 2023, between 6:00 and 7:30 p.m. This program will run weekly and feature a different LEGO building challenge each week, as well as time for free building. LEGO My Library is offered in partnership with Kiwanis of Lakeshore and Kiwanis Aktion Club of Lakeshore

Dove Real Beauty

The Dove Real Beauty Workshop for Girls is a fun, educational and interactive program for young girls ages 6-12 and their adult female mentors that encourages girls and women everywhere to embrace a more positive image of themselves, both inside and out. Get involved to make a change!

Program will be held Tuesday, September 26th from 6:00-7:30 pm @ the James L. McIntyre Centennial Library, 50 East Street in the Program Room.

Baby Time

Baby Time at the Centennial Library! Designed for the youngest library users and their parents or caregivers, Babytime is a great way to introduce young children to the library, to begin a love of books and to help children develop into lifelong learners. There will be lots of fun, singing, shakers and scarves.

This 30 minute program is for caregivers and baby aged Newborn to 12 months. Tuesday October 3rd to Tuesday November 7th from 10:00am to 10:30am. 

Located in the lower level Program Room at the Centennial Library.

Preschool Storytime

The Preschool program will run Wednesday mornings from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. starting Wednesday, September 13th until Wednesday, November 1st at the James L. McIntyre Centennial Library (50 East St.).

This program is open to children 30 to 48 months of age.

Children will explore stories and learning activities that encourage them along a lifelong path of reading and learning, and that focus on pre-reading, numeracy, and socialization. 

Registration is now closed.

Note: Parents and caregivers must remain in the library building throughout the duration of the program.

Surprise Reads for Kids

Surprise Reads for Kids is a monthly subscription with books picked just for kids, based on what they like to read! Each month, we’ll select 3 books for your child, check them out to you, package them for pick-up, and contact you to let you know your Surprise Reads are ready!

Forest of Reading Award Program

The Forest of Reading Award Programs are where children and young adults pick the winner! Readers choose a program that they would like to be a part of, usually based on their age or grade, and simply begin reading! They can read all ten of the titles, or pick and choose to read only the ones they are interested in. Participants are encouraged to read at least five of the ten titles to be eligible to vote in April. This program aims to encourage a genuine and life-long love of reading among readers of all ages.
