We offer a variety of literacy based programming for children of all ages throughout the year. Our goal is to inspire a love of reading in young children while having fun!

Hey kids! Looking for something cool to do this summer? Come chill at the North Branch Library EVERY Wednesday afternoon for a free, family-friendly movie — and yes, popcorn is included!

Each week features a fun, kid-approved movie that’s perfect for you and your friends. It’s a great way to relax, have a laugh, and enjoy some summer fun — all for FREE!

Kids, this summer plan a family trip

Kids, this summer, Plan a Family Day Trip! Whether you're exploring the city of Sault Ste. Marie, enjoying the great outdoors, or transforming your backyard into a mini retreat — there's something for everyone.

Start your summer journey by picking up a Family Day Trip Booklet at the North Branch Library (232C Northern Ave. E). It's full of fun ideas and tips to help you organize your Family Day Trip. 

As you explore, don’t forget to capture the memories! Submit a photo or drawing (optional) of your day trip along with your name and phone number to the North Branch Library before August 28, 2025, for your chance to win a gift card to The Big Moose Ice Cream Parlour!

The draw will take place on August 28, 2025 — just in time to wrap up summer on a sweet note!

So, grab your booklet, plan your trip, and start your family adventure.

The great egg drop challenge

Save the Date!

When: August 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM
Where: Centennial Library, Sault Ste. Marie
Who:  Children ages 6–13

Can you design the ultimate egg-saving device? Put your creativity and engineering skills to the test at The Great Egg Drop Challenge! Participants will receive a variety of materials to craft a contraption that will keep their egg safe from a daring 12-foot drop. Will your design crack under pressure, or will you achieve egg-cellent success?

This is a registered program. Registration opens July 29th at 9:00 AM - Stay tuned for the registration link!

Drop-in ready set ready storytime

Drop-in to the James L. McIntyre Centennial Library Wednesday mornings beginning July 16th for a 5-week program where children 3-4 years old will enjoy stories, crafts and activities that support emerging reading skills.  Parents and caregivers will be able to gather resources and check-out books to encourage strategies for reading success. Wednesdays: July 16th – August 13th, 2025, from 10:30am – 11:30 am. Children must be accompanied by an adult.


 

Bubble Party at the james l. mcintyre centennial library, july 24th at 11am

Get ready for a bubbly good time at the James L. McIntyre Centennial Library! On July 24th, 2025, join us for an Outdoor Storytime at 11 AM, followed by DIY Bubble Wand making, sidewalk chalk fun, music, and more! BYOB (bring your own bubbles/bubble machine) if you’d like and get ready to soak up the summer magic. Don’t miss this whimsical day of laughter, creativity, and of course—bubbles!

This is a drop-in program - no registration required. There is room for everyone, so tell all your friends!

Get ready to build, create, and win! Join us in the Children's Department for weekly LEGO challenges from June 30th to August 22nd. Complete each challenge and earn a ballot for our End of Summer Draw—the more you build, the better your chances to win!

Forest of Reading Award Program

The Forest of Reading Award Programs are where children and young adults pick the winner! Readers choose a program that they would like to be a part of, usually based on their age or grade, and simply begin reading! They can read all ten of the titles, or pick and choose to read only the ones they are interested in. Participants are encouraged to read at least five of the ten titles to be eligible to vote in April. This program aims to encourage a genuine and life-long love of reading among readers of all ages.
