COVID 19 Update and FAQ

All Sault Ste. Marie Public Library locations remain closed in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19. We have taken steps to improve access to our online resources and services while our facilities remain closed. Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions we have been receiving. 

We will be updating our website and social media accounts regularly with any changes or updates in our services. 

When will the Library re-open?
At this time we do not have an official date to re-open any library location. When a decision is made to re-open Library locations we will be making an announcement and contacting the media with details.

Can I apply for a Library card online?
Yes! You can submit a request for a library card through our online form and we will get back to you as soon as possible. You must be a resident of Sault Ste. Marie or a contracting community in order to receive a card.

My library card is expired, can I renew it online?
To renew a card, please email lib.circ4@cityssm.on.ca with your information and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

What should I do with items I need to return?
We ask that you do not attempt to return materials while the Library is closed and instead wait until the Library reopens to return any materials. No fines will be incurred during this time.

Will I be charged late fines for materials I have?
No. Fines will not be charged to any accounts during this time.

Can I pick up my items I have on hold?
At this time holds cannot be picked up from any library location. Any items that were on hold will be available for pickup when the library reopens.

Can I place new holds on items?
Yes, you can place holds on items through our online catalogue, but holds will not be able to be picked up until the Library reopens.


What is happening with programs and events that were scheduled at the Library?
All library programs and events are cancelled until further notice. When the Library reopens we will be working to reschedule programs accordingly.


What services I can use from home?
We encourage the citizens of Sault Ste. Marie to take advantage of the Library’s many online offerings including audiobooks and ebooks through OverDrive and movies, TV shows, ebooks, audiobooks and graphic novels through Hoopla . The Library also offers online story times through its Tumblebook Library.

Where can I find information about Covid-19?
