COVID 19 Update and FAQ

The Centennial Library is currently open for curbside pickup only, the North Branch remains closed at this time. Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions we have been receiving. 

We will be updating our website and social media accounts regularly with any changes or updates to our services. 

When will the Library re-open?
At this time we do not have an official date when the library will re-open to normal operations, but the Centennial Library is currently offering curbside pickup for most collections and materials.

Can I apply for a Library card online?
Yes! You can submit a request for a library card through our online form and we will get back to you as soon as possible. You must be a resident of Sault Ste. Marie or a contracting community in order to receive a card.

My library card is expired, can I renew it online?
To renew a card, please email lib.circ4@cityssm.on.ca with your information and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

What should I do with items I need to return?
All items should be returned to the Library by your specified due date. All returns must be returned through the drop box at either location. No fines will be incurred during this time.

I returned items but they are still checked out on my account, why?
All returned materials are quarantined for 72 hours before we check them in and reshelve them, but don't worry no fines are being charged at this time.

Will I be charged late fines for materials I have?
No. Fines will not be charged to any accounts during this time.

Can I place holds on items?
Yes, you can place holds on items through our online catalogue, or by calling 705-759-5236 during business hours and staff will help you place items on hold. Staff will contact you to arrange a pickup time when your holds are ready for pickup.

When can I pick up my items I have on hold?
Library staff will contact you to arrange a time to pickup your holds.


What is happening with programs and events that were scheduled at the Library?
All library programs and events are cancelled until further notice. When the Library reopens we will be working to reschedule programs accordingly.


What services I can use from home?
We encourage the citizens of Sault Ste. Marie to take advantage of the Library’s many online offerings including audiobooks and ebooks through OverDrive and movies, TV shows, ebooks, audiobooks and graphic novels through Hoopla . The Library also offers online story times through its Tumblebook Library.

Where can I find information about Covid-19?
