Sault saint marie public library under construction

Work to replace the exterior cladding around the James L. McIntyre Centennial Library, located at 50 East St., has begun. The cladding – the metal siding between the windows and the roof of the building – has exceeded its life expectancy and needs to be replaced to prevent water ingress and damage. Please note that for the duration of the construction project, the library will maintain regular operating hours.

Earlier this summer, the City of Sault Ste. Marie awarded the contract to replace the cladding to Everest Masonry Inc. As of 10:00 a.m. on Friday September 20, 2024, fencing has begun to be installed around the building. The public will be able to continue to access the building through the main entrances under the canopy. Some outdoor spaces, such as the courtyard, will be off-limits for the public’s safety.

During this time, staff parking lots have been closed and staff will use the public parking on East St. and adjacent to Clergue Park. This will limit the amount of parking available throughout each day.

Construction is anticipated to last until October 30, 2024, and will occur during weekdays and weekends.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
