Library to Upgrade Core Technology System
Posted: Jan 20, 2026
An Integrated Library System is the behind-the-scenes software that supports many essential library services, including managing collections, patron accounts, checkouts, holds, and online access. While most of the transition work will take place in the background, the upgrade represents a significant investment in modernizing the Library’s operations and introducing a more robust platform with enhanced features, improved reliability, stronger cybersecurity protections, and better long-term sustainability. Patrons whose library cards may be expired are encouraged to request renewals before January 21 to help minimize service disruptions. Online services such as Overdrive/Libby and HOOPLA should have minimal disruptions for those with active library cards. Full services, including item renewals, holds, interlibrary loan requests, and online account access, will be restored following the January 26 launch. The ILS project was initiated by the Library Board in the spring of 2025 to better position the Library to meet the evolving needs of the community. Compared to the previous system, Symphony offers a more modern, flexible, and cost-effective platform, with expanded features that will support improved service delivery both now and into the future. Frequently Asked Questions about the new system and the transition process are available on the Library’s website at https://ssmpl.ca/using-ssmpl/new-ils/ 50 East Street Additional updates will be shared through the Library’s website, social media channels, and in-branch signage. |
