Local Authors

The library has a growing collection of fiction and non-fiction titles written by authors from Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma Region. These items can be found in various collections at both our locations.

Who is included under the umbrella of LOCAL AUTHOR?

In order to be considered the work of a local author, the submission must meet ONE of the following criteria:

  • Be authored by a current or past resident of Sault Ste. Marie ON or the Algoma District
  • Take place in Sault Ste. Marie or the Algoma District
  • Focus on historical events in Sault Ste. Marie or the Algoma District
  • Focus on historical persons from Sault Ste. Marie or the Algoma District
  • Otherwise demonstrate a strong local interest (this may include Sault Ste. Marie and the Upper Peninsula)

The Sault Ste. Marie Public Library will recognize other contributors to written works under the umbrella of "local authors", including:

  • Persons whose photographs are included in a written work
  • Persons whose illustrations are included in a written work
  • Persons who are credited as editors of a written work.


Information For Authors

The library welcomes submissions from local authors who wish to have their book added to the library's collection.

All items that are submitted to the library for inclusion must meet the criteria outlined in our Collection Development Policy.

As mentioned in the Local Author Collection Guidelines, if you wish to submit the work of a Local Author, you MUST print and fill out a Local Author Submission Form and submit the form along with a copy of their work.
