What can you make with the 3D printer?
Any three-dimensional object you can imagine such as jewelry, home appliance parts, toys, models, or phone accessories. You can also print prototypes for a business, or artistic venture.

Not sure what to make? Take a look at our 3D Printing Quick Catalogue: Januray-AprilOctober, and November-December. Our catalogue provides examples of 3D printing our machine is capable of. All designs in the catalogue have been tested, from the smallest pieces to the multi-part dice tower that was created to demonstrate how large items can be processed if they come in smaller parts. 

What materials can you print?
Currently PLA plastic filament is only available for our printer.

What colours can you print in?
Our filament colours vary depending on availability. Before we print anything we will let you know what colours are available.

What files types can I submit?
We only accept .stl, or .hvs files for printing.

Is there a fee to get something printed?
Yes, we charge flat fee of $2.26 (HST included), plus $0.10 per gram of material used for all 3D prints. For example, a print that is 45 grams will cost: $2.26 + (.10*45) = $6.76.

Are there any restrictions on what I can get printed?
Yes, the library’s 3-D printer may be used for lawful purposes only. We will not print any material that is:

How do I get something printed?
Find or create an .stl, or .hvs file.
Save the file to a USB stick and bring it to the Reference Desk at the Centennial Library, or submit the file by e-mail to lib.info1@cityssm.on.ca
Staff will review your file and determine if it can be printed and abides by the Library’s policy, your file will then be added to the queue for printing.

You will be notified when your item is scheduled to print, and when to pick up your printed item.

Where can I find designs to get printed?
If you are interested free designs that have been made by other people, we recommend browsing Thingiverse to find what you are looking for. Most of the designs available through Thingiverse are licensed under a Creative Commons license, meaning they are free to download and alter. You can also create your own designs with free design software such as Tinkercad.
