FAQs

How do I get a library card?
Getting a library card is free and takes less than 5 minutes! Simply stop by any branch location with 2 pieces of identification, or sign up online. See our Get a Library Card webpage for full details. Library cards are free to all residents of Sault Ste. Marie and local communities that have a contract with the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library.

The contracting communities for 2020 are:

  • Aweres
  • Goulais & District
  • Searchmont
  • Tarbutt and Tarbutt Additional
  • Laird Township
  • MacDonald, Meredith & Aberdeen

How do I check my account online?
You can check your account by logging in through our online catalogue with your library card number and PIN, or by using your EZ Login credentials.
 

What is my PIN number?
Your PIN number is assigned when you register for a card and serves as a security check when you access your library account online. If you have forgotten your PIN number and cannot login to your account, please call (705) 759-5231 for assistance.
 

How do I download eBooks and eAudiobooks from the library?
EBooks and eAudiobooks are available through several different services inclduing OverDrive, Libby, and hoopla. Each application is free to download and only requires a library card and PIN to access. For more details about using OverDrive, Libby, or hoopla, see our Digital Resources page.
 

How do I renew my material?
Library material can be renewed in person at any library location, by phone at 705-759-5231, or you can renew materials by logging into your account online. While most library materials can be renewed up to 5 times, renewals are not allowed for any materials that have been requested by another borrower.  
 

Do Library Cards Expire?
Yes! Cards need to be renewed annually, reporting any change of address, e-mail or telephone number. Cards can be renewed at any library location, or by calling 705-759-5231.


How do I create an EZ Login?
If you do not have an EZ login, you can create one by logging into your account through the catalogue using your library card number and PIN. Once logged in, click the drop-down arrow next to “[Your first name]’s Account” and select “Account Summary”. The account summary page will appear and on the left hand side click EZ Login to open the Create EZ Login dialog. (Note: If you do not see the EZ Login option, but see EZ Username and EZ Password, you already have an established EZ Login.) Type in your desired EZ Username and EZ Password.
 

How do I reserve a computer?
Only patrons that have an active library card can reserve a computer. To reserve a computer, you can use the self-reservation computer if the library branch is equipped with one, or you can call the library location you wish to reserve a computer at. Reservations can be made up to a day in advance, and for a maximum of 2 hours per day.
 

I am from out of town and don’t have a library card, can I use a computer at the library?
Yes! We can provide you with a guest pass to use a computer.


How can I donate to the library?
There are many ways that you can donate to the library such as joining the Friends of the Library, making a donation of materials, or a financial donation. See our Support Your Library page for more details.
